Governor Parkinson Funds Child Abuse Victims Centers

By John Boyd (WICHITA, Kan.)

Governor Mark Parkinson has announced nearly a million dollars in funding to help Child Advocacy Centers across Kansas. These centers help support young children who have been victims of child abuse.

The $934,591 in funding comes from the State Children's Advocacy Centers Grant Program.

"Children's Advocacy Centers provide a safe place for abused children to talk about difficult and frightening abuse," said Parkinson in a press release. "I'm grateful these centers are available to our children, and I am pleased to assist them in carrying out their important mission."

Assistance from the State Children's Advocacy Centers Grant Program can be used to support staff salaries, forensic interviews or family support advocates who help connect families with local resources. For many centers, the grant program's award is their primary source of funding.
