Man Dies In Lane County Grain Elevator Accident

By Megahn Snyder (AMY, Kan.)

Federal officials are investigating a deadly grain elevator accident in Lane County.

Lane County Fire/EMS Chief Sean Gooding says a man was performing his usual work at the elevator in Amy just after nine o'clock Thursday morning, attached to a rope by a harness. At some point he became trapped under the milo.

Rescue crews were able to pull him out, but he later died at the Lane County hospital. At least one other person was at the elevator when it happened.

Gooding says the harness apparatus the victim was wearing was intact.  The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, is investigating how the accident happened.
