If arena parking doesn't generate enough revenue to cover costs for the City of Wichita, the county will pay the difference. County Commissioners voted Wednesday on a contract to pay the city up to $225,000 a year. The money would only be paid to off set any shortfall the city experiences during arena events at four city owned parking lots near the arena. The lots include the state office building surface lot and parking garage. The other two are at Waterman and Mead and Lewis and Emporia. Under the agreement, those lots are required to be set aside for arena events. The city says it has more parking than it expected between private and public lots. It says there are 4,000 spaces within a three block radius. Specific parking plans for the public will be unveiled on a new website Monday.
