DEA Raids Wichita Supplements Warehouse

Drug Enforcement Administration agents have raided a warehouse in Wichita, apparently looking for illegal substances.  Local DEA agents tell Eyewitness News they're assisting with an investigation out of Boston, Massachusetts.

Workers at the Affordable Supplements warehouse at 10th & Mosely tell Eyewitness News they were ready to go into the building for work at around 8:00 this morning when DEA agents showed up.  Employees say they were each questioned one-by-one.

Several employees say they overheard agents talking about "selling illegal products," and the agents were carrying lists of products they were checking for.

We contacted the DEA office in Wichita.  They referred our questions to authorities in Boston.  Christina Sterling with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Boston tells Eyewitness News she's not allowed to comment on the investigation because the case is under seal.

When federal agents investigate a case labeled "under seal," it often means a grand jury investigation is under way.  Sterling wouldn't comment when asked if any other businesses in Kansas or around the nation were also part of this investigation.

Affordable Supplements' website says it sells sports nutrition supplements, vitamins, and other products.  Most of the company's business comes from online sales.

Jeff Sowder rents the space Affordable Supplements uses for its warehouse.  Sowder says he had no idea about the DEA raid until we called him.  He says the company has leased space from him for the last year-and-a-half, and he's never had any problems with Affordable Supplements.

"They pay their rent on time each month," says Sowder.  "I know very little about their business dealings, but they've been great tenants."
