Kansas Lottery Reject Casino Plan In Southeast Kansas

TOPEKA, Kan.

The Kansas Lottery has rejected an application from a group that wants to manage a state-owned casino in the Southeast Kansas, saying it doesn't meet the state's minimum requirement.

Former Wichita mayor Bob Knight's involved with Ozark Trail Gaming LLC.  The group's plan was to build a casino in Cherokee County at U.S Highway 166/400, one mile north of I-44.

Tuesday, the Kansas Lottery sent a letter to Ozark Trail Gaming, informing the group its application is rejected.  The letter states that the group ""provided no information that would indicate that Ozark Trail has access to financial resources to support the activities required of a Lottery Gaming Facility Manager," and "no evidence that the applicant has any Class III gaming experience," as required by the Kansas Expanded Lottery Act.

This rejection means the application process for the Southeast Kansas zone - which includes Cherokee & Crawford Counties - remains open.  The deadline for new applications is January 19, 2010.   Ozark Trail Gaming may submit a new application within that time frame, if it wishes.
