6th Annual Pioneer Day at Ellis County Historical Society Museum - 100 W 7th  - 9:30 am-2:30 pm - 785-628-2624 - This is a free, educational, outdoor event for elementary age children. Learn and have fun at our more than 15 hands-on demonstrations. Throughout the years we have had demonstrations on: butter churning, cross bow sawing, washing clothes with homemade soap & wash board, relay and sack races, rug braiding, old time toys & games, music, storytelling, a general store, grooming horses, milking a goat and a petting zoo. Plus tour the Volga German Haus and the Harness Shop. No admission fee. Public invited.

Learn about how they are imprinted trained, how & why they are groomed, and see what they eat and where they live. Admission Fee applies and includes: Demonstrations of miniatures trained to obstacle course, training in the lounging pen, grooming for the show ring and imprint training.    Tours will be held at 10 am, 12 pm and 2 pm. Music & cart rides , are scheduled for 11 am, 1 pm & 3 pm. The workshop will help businesses prepare for and react to disasters ranging from floods, tornadoes, power outages, backed up sewers, malfuntioning sp, rinklers, etc.  Paula Phillips, training officer for Kansas Emergency Management/Homeland Security, will cover the following topics: 

Business continuity including customer communication
Equipment issues
Record retrieval (hard copy and electronic)
Damage assessment
Financial procedures (payroll, accounts payable, etc)
Site recovery/alternate site
Employee safety and notification
Recovery goals
Mock disaster - discussion of shutting down for a day to test plan

St. Fidelis Church's "Fidelisfest"

St. Fidelis Church's "Fidelisfest" - 900 Cathedral - Victoria, KS - 785-735-2777 - 11 am-7 pm - Join us for this annual fundraiser. The morning begins with visits to the 5 local cemeteries--Emmeram, Walker, Pfeifer, Vincent & Victoria--followed by an 11 am Mass at the "Cathedral of the Plains", St. Fidelis Church. After mass, the festivities begin with a German Wedding style dinner until 2 pm. There will be a country store with home made baked items, a beer g, arden, hamburger and braut stand, gift shop, free kid's games, mud volleyball tournament, musical entertainment throughout the day, a raffle with BIG CASH prizes and an auction of new items donated by businesses and parishioners. Proceeds are used to maintain the beautiful and historical church.

** St Fidelis Church has been named one of the 24 finalists for the 8 WONDERS OF KANSAS. The 8 winners will be chosen by popular vote and will be announced on January 29, 2008 (Kansas Day) by Governor Sebelius. For more information on voting, e-mail
