Big Rivals or Exaggeration on Big Brother?

by Linda Mares

Big rivals or a big exaggeration to get viewers to watch the show?

Big Brother made its debut Thursday night.

For the first time Jessica Hughbanks and Carol Journey, two high school rivals from Haysville, realized they would live together on the show.

We spoke with Haysville residents who know both girls, including their parents.  The most common used word to describe the two, "competitive."

The girls parents say Hughbanks and Journey were friends until their freshman year of high school, and then for some reason stopped talking.

Thursday night, a little more light was shed on the problems between the two. "You know girls in high school.  I mean we were at each other and so we just went out separate ways," according to Hughbanks when she explained how she felt after realizing Journey was on the show.

Journey didn't have a chance to say much except for the look on her face when she found out Hughbanks was also on the show.  Her jaw dropped and she said, "Oh my God."

Part of this season's twist was some of the house guests would have old rivals living with them.

Big Brother airs on CBS every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday night.
