Wichita teachers and the Wichita School Board announce a tentative contract deal for the next school year.
The contract agreement calls for a 4% salary increase for teachers. There's also a raise for additional education and for years of experience.
Under the plan, the school board will pay $552 a month for employee health insurance. Teachers have the option of paying an extra $165 a month for premium health insurance.
The deal also gives special education teachers one day a year to work on their individual education plan for their students. This is a work day special-ed teachers didn't have before.
This contract agreement still has to be ratified. Members of the 4,000 Wichita teacher union will vote on it the week of August 6th. The Wichita School Board is set to vote on it on August 13th.
The 2007-08 school year begins August 15th. Both the school board and the teachers' union hope to have this contract in place by that day.
