What You Need to Know About Renters Insurance

Posted: Updated:

A survey in 2007 found that more than half of all renters in the United States do not have renters insurance.

The Kansas Insurance Commissioner's Office tells us, three out of four renters in Kansas may not have insurance...even though it's affordable.

The average premium in Kansas begins at $12 a month for $30,000 worth of property.

Many renters assume their landlord will protect them, but the Kansas Insurance Commissioner says, that's not true.  the landlord's policy will likely not cover anything that belongs to a tenant.

Renters insurance can help replace your things in case of fire, smoke, vandalism, theft.  Some policies will also cover expenses such as temporary housing and meals if your home becomes unlivable.

You can learn more about renters insurance by talking with your insurance agent.
