Food Stamps Help The Economy

Posted: Updated:

Use food stamps - it helps the economy!  That may sound a little strange but Dr. Anita Raghavan of Campaign To End Childhood Hunger says it will boost the economy.

"One food stamp dollar has the economic impact of three dollars in the community," said Raghavan.  "We need truckers to bring the food in, people to sack the groceries, farmers to grow it.  It brings more money to the local economy."

In Kansas, the food stamp program is actually called the Food Assistance Program.  Raghavan says only about 60 percent of federal dollars available are being used.  She encourages people to look at the income guidelines and use the program if they are eligible.    For additional information, contact Inter-Faith Ministries at (316) 264-9303.
