It's the tiny little stain buster that is supposed to work nearly instantly: Tide to Go. The company claims to erase food and drink spills from your clothing.
But, Does It Work-
We pull in three teenage boys and white cotton t-shirts to put it to the test. First stain: ketchup. The instruction say remove the excess food and press the tip only the stain to release the cleaning solution. From there, you rub the liquid around on the stain.
Our testers see the stain fade, though not disappear. It also becomes a big wet spot. For our testers, that's not any better than the stain--and may draw more attention.
They get the same results from a stain of grape jelly. For the third test, Alex leaves his shirt on and tries to remove a mustard stain. Again, it never really removes the yellow---and gets bigger the more he works on it.
Does It Work- All three boys say no.
We contacted Procter and Gamble which says Tide to Go works on ketchup, BBQ sauce and wine, among other food products. However the company says it does not claim to work on mustard or grape jelly. And it says if Tide to Go is used properly, it works well on what it calls "certain stains."
But we found the ads, and the Tide to Go packaging don't tell you what those foods are---and aren't---before you buy it.
