The Backstretch Blog: Bowyer on the Backstretch
October 2, 2013
You know Chase drivers are red hot when you finish 10th in a race, and it drops you farther back in from the leaders in the points. While Clint Bowyer's 10th at Dover did move him from 10th to eighth in the points, he dropped from 48 points back, to 52.
"We've had a rough start to the Chase, but we worked hard and put ourselves in a good position to go for the win (in Dover)," said Bowyer. "Unfortunately, that caution there at the end ruined our plan, but we were good enough and smart enough to get a win today. That is a tough one to swallow."
This week it's home sweet home for Bowyer as the Sprint Cup Series visits the Kansas Speedway. Obviously, he enjoys racing so close to his hometown.
"I was raised in Emporia. That means a lot to me," said Bowyer. "I love the people there and the community itself. I always want people to know that I'm from Kansas and that I'm proud of that."
And the Kansas Speedway has been pretty good to its favorite son, especially recently. Bowyer was fifth here in the spring and sixth last fall.
"I love coming back to Kansas and think that they've done such a great job with turning Kansas Speedway into a destination track for NASCAR fans," said Bowyer. "It's a fun place to visit with all the restaurants, shopping, sporting events and things to do within walking distance of the track. That all used to be farm field and now it's like a whole new city centered around the racetrack. It's one of the better experiences you can get going to a racetrack."
