West Wichita homeowners voice their objections to a planned Sam's Club store in their neighborhood.
The Planning Commission met Thursday afternoon to discuss the proposal which would build the store on a piece of land near 29th & Maize Road. That's next to the Fox Ridge housing development.
The meeting room was filled to capacity.
Residents argue that changing the zoning to allow a major retailer like Sam's Club would increase traffic and drive down property values. Dozens of Fox Ridge residents have signed a petition to keep a big store out.
The commission decided to defer the issue for 30 days. Members want a representative from Sam's Club to meet with the neighborhood to go over specific concerns.
The issue will go to the City Council sometime in November.
