Bombardier LearJet has unveil the new LearJet 70 & 75 models, a move the company believe will set it up for the future.

The jets feature improved Garmin avionics and a more modern cabin design based on customer feedback.  The 6 and 8 passenger jets also have new thrusters for added power and improved fuel efficiency.

"You invest all the money for the future to generate demand and sell a bunch of airplanes and put a bunch of people to work and we're looking forward to that opportunity," said John Dieker, VP of Strategic Projects for LearJet.

Dieker said the aircraft industry remains "soft", but he said Learjet will not sit on the sidelines during the recession and instead will be ready to fly when the economy turns for the better.

The wings for the Learjet 70 & 75 will be assembled in Toronto and the fuselage will be constructed in Belfast. The elements will then be sent to Wichita for final assembly.

Officials say the company already has commitments for 50 orders with the first delivery expected in the second quarter of 2013.
