Sedgwick County Zoo will celebrate all things ape during their Ape Awareness Weekend this Friday and Saturday, June 20 & 21. The event will take place each of these days from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
You can learn more about the three different types of apes that call Sedgwick County Zoo home during Ape Awareness Weekend, including chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans.
Event activities are appropriate for all ages and include: learning about ape enrichment, participating in keeper chats, investigating the struggles that apes face, and discovering recycling opportunities.
Ape merchandise will also be available for purchase during the event. Proceeds raised from the merchandise sold will benefit the ape conservation projects.
Below is a list of times to attend daily keeper chats:
o 11:30 a.m., 1:15 p.m., & 2:30 p.m. – Gorilla at The Downing Gorilla Forest indoor area
o 1:00 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. – Orangutan at Koch Orangutan and Chimpanzee Habitat
o 1:45 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. – Chimpanzee at Koch Orangutan and Chimpanzee Habitat
Regular Zoo admission applies; Zoo members get in free with their membership card and a photo ID.
