Kites of all shapes and sizes will be soaring high in the sky this weekend at Derby’s 2nd Annual Kite Festival.

On Saturday, May 17, you’re encouraged to bring your own kite, lawn chair, and even your leashed pet out to this family-friendly event from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at High Park, 2801 E. James St., in Derby.

The day’s festivities will include the following:

·    kite making
·    face painting
·    live music
·    a 1-Mile Fun Walk
·    professional kite flyers
·    disc golf
·    a candy drop from RC planes
·    multiple kite vendors
·    Bol races
·    food vendors

Attendees can come and go as they please throughout the event, although the 1-Mile walk will take place at 1:30 PM and the candy drop at 2:00 PM. There is no cost to get into this event.

One of the goals of the Kite Festival is to get more people to spend time outdoors. Along with the various event activities, High Park also has play areas for children, biker and walker paths, and a pond for fishing.
