Miss America came to Wichita on Wednesday to Wichita to talk about her passion for mentoring.
Laura Kaeppeler spoke at a conference hosted by the Kansas Big Brother, Big Sisters organization. Her platform is mentoring children of parents who are in jail or prison.
Kaeppeler's father served time in prison while she was in high school. She says without mentors in her life, she wouldn't be the woman she is today.
Kaeppeler says children whose parents are in prison are more likely to commit crimes and end up in jail themselves.
