Volunteers work quickly on this assembly line Friday morning.
"You know its for a great cause, you know that your feeding kids that need it, says Beth Fields.
Beth Fields is one of hundreds putting together lunches at the Kansas Food Bank during hunger action month.
Kids are just one group the food bank serves weekly.
These bags will be given out to children across the state who wouldn't normally have food over the weekend.
"Most people we live in our own worlds and we don't realize that they're are people in need and great need," says Donna Pinarie.
Heading up Friday's line, she runs a local food ministry.
"This is my source for food for my ministry, I love the food bank they're wonderful. I couldn't do it without them," says Pinarie.
And neither could thousands of others.
About 8 million pounds of food will be distributed across the state this year.
With only 13 paid employees, the Kansas Food Bank needs volunteers to get the food out.
Brian Walker, with the Food Bank says without the palettes many of their clients would go a whole day without eating.
"There's lots of working poor, they're trying hard, they just don't make enough to get by. They have to choose between putting gas in the car to get to work or buying food," says Brian Walker.
Between these volunteers and donations, the food bank hopes those choices are made less often.
So, where does the Kansas Food Bank get all its food? Over 1 million dollars worth is purchased every year, the rest is donated.
Local grocers and restaurants also donate meat and fresh produce. Volunteers will be at the kansas food bank until eight Friday evening packing up food. The Kansas Food Bank is located at East Douglas and I-135.
