Today, the Kansas Food Bank kick-offs off Hunger Action Month.
You can stop by and learn about volunteer opportunities as well as meet KWCH 12 Eyewitness News anchors Roger Cornish, Cindy Klose and Michael Schwanke as they help assemble food packages.
"You know its for a great cause, you know that your feeding kids that need it, said volunteer Beth Fields.
Kansas Governor Mark Parkinson declared September "Hunger Action Month." Last year, a federal report said nearly 14 percent of Kansas families went hungry between 2006 and 2008. It's the eighth highest figure for any state.
"Most people we live in our own worlds and we don't realize that they're are people in need and great need," says Donna Pinarie who runs a local ministry. "This is my source for food for my ministry, I love the food bank they're wonderful. I couldn't do it without them."
