11-year-old who fell into water warns kids not to walk on icy ponds

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) An 11-year-old struggled to get back to shore while playing on an icy pond in South Wichita. He calls his decision to walk on the ice one of the dumbest things he's ever done and wants to warn other kids not to do it.

Eleven-year-old Laydon Jarrell calls himself an adrenaline junkie.

Laydon said he walked on an icy lake near 55th St and Gold Wednesday because he thought it would be fun, until he fell.

His cousin captured the whole thing on video.

"Scared, really scared when I fell like my legs were slipping and it made me fall, and then the ice cracked under the water," said Laydon.

Laydon said it was a bad decision and one he won't make again.

"I was like jumping and trying to claw my way out because there was ice everywhere around me, and it was hard, and my friend and my cousin were just standing there laughing," said Laydon.

For a moment, he didn't think he would make it back to shore.

"In my mind I was thinking, is this how I could die or something? Is this the last thing I am ever going to do?" said Laydon.

He warns other kids not do what he did.
