WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) We're not sure if it was the eclipse or just Mother Nature, but 26 babies were born in Wichita on Eclipse Day.
Wesley Medical Center says 13 babies were born at its hospital. Via Christi says it also welcomed 13 babies at its St. Joseph campus.
We spoke to the mother of one of those babies, who just happened to name her son, Rey.
"I was planning on watching the eclipse, but I was in so much pain, that my boyfriend and my kid went outside to watch the eclipse. Afterwhile, I'm like, 'I think it's time to go'. So, he rushed me to the hospital and when I got here I was already dilated at eight," she said.
According to NASA, a solar eclipse occurs during its "new" phase. It has a gravitational pull on water, including the water that surrounds a baby inside its mother. Therefore, the increased pull can in fact cause full-term mothers to go into labor.
