Ventura suspended 9 games; Machado 4 following fight

June 9, 2016 Following an altercation during last Tuesday's contest between the Royals and Orioles, Major League Baseball has handed out the much-awaited suspensions for KC pitcher Yordano Ventura and Baltimore third baseman Manny Machado.

Machado is suspended for four games; taking him out of their series against Toronto. Ventura received a steeper nine-game suspension. Banning him from the three-game White Sox and Indians' series, and all but one game vs. Detroit.

Ventura and Machado had been exchanging words and stare-downs when Ventura hit Machado with a 99 mph fastball. Machado charged the mound and the benches cleared as the two fought.

This is far from the first time Yordano Ventura has been involved in on-field issues in his time with Kansas City.

The league also handed Machado a $2,500 fine. Both players are expected to appeal their suspensions.
