Man killed in motorcycle crash near Derby identified

DERBY, Kan. (KWCH) Update: The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office has identified a man killed in a motorcycle crash on Monday as 53-year-old Gregory S. Castoreno of Belle Plaine.

The sheriff's office says shortly before 11:30 a.m. on deputies were dispatched to a motorcycle wreck on the curve at 79th South and Hillside.

A passerby noticed a maroon 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle on top of a man in the north ditch just west of Hillside.

The sheriff's office says evidence from the scene indicates that the rider was turning west on the curve when the cycle left the roadway.

Paramedics pronounced the rider dead at the scene.

The sheriff's office says deputies have been able to narrow down the time of the wreck to sometime between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.

Anyone who was traveling through that area and witnessed the wreck is asked to call 316-660-3760 or at 911.

This wreck remains under investigation.

Sedgwick County dispatchers say the crash happened around 11:24 a.m. near 79th & Hillside. Only the motorcycle was involved, the Sedgwick County Sheriff"s Office says.

Sedgwick County Sheriff's Lt. Len Dehning says a passing bicyclist found a man in the ditch with a motorcycle on top of him. The bicyclist called 911.

Dehning says the man died on the scene.

"Evidence from the scene indicates that the man was northbound on Hillside and failed to negotiate the curve to the west of 79th Street South leaving the roadway to the north and ending up in the ditch," the sheriff's office says.
