Kansas trooper's video using the 'acceleration lane' goes viral

SALINA, Kan. (KWCH) A video posted by one of the "Tweeting Troopers" is going viral.

Trooper Ben Gardner posted a 42-second video to the Kansas Highway Patrol Troop C Facebook page on Feb. 2. The topic - using the acceleration lane to get onto the interstate.

"Entrance ramp people," reads Gardner's post. "Ya got to accelerate."

"tt's called an acceleration lane people," he explains. "When you get into the interstate, you've got to accelerate to be at the same speed that people are traveling on the interstate."

Gardner goes on to stay that he's not advocating for people to speed, but at least be going the speed limit.

"I need you to be going the speed limit as you merge into traffic because it totally jacks everybody up that's in the lanes traveling down the road," says Gardner in the video.

The video has been viewed 1.4 million times and shared more than 30,000 times.

"Can you please do a series of these videos explaining “common sense” driving to those who are lacking? Please? I have several suggestions," suggests commenter Faith Noel Staton.
