Children located safely after Amber Alert, suspect in police custody

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - UPDATE Sunday (June 4) - According to Sedgwick County jail records, 29-year-old Dane Alexander Wright is facing multiple charges in connection to a fire investigation, which ultimately led to an Amber Alert for three children.

All three children were found safe Friday night at the Heritage Inn.

Wright was arrested on aggravated arson, 1st degree murder, two counts of failure to appear, and three child endangerment charges.

The victim's name has not been released by police or her family, but the family did give us permission to share a
GoFundMe page that will assist the family with expenses.

Sunday, Eyewitness News spoke with a friend of the woman who died. The friend says the victim had a trouble past with Wright.

"He said that he would kill her, and she... I think it just became so common that she swept it under the rug like it was a common occurrence," friend Valyn Burrell says.

Friday updates

UPDATE 10:00 PM - Police located the three children at the Heritage Inn earlier Friday night before they arrested Dane Wright at a nearby grocery store.

According to Police Chief Gordon Ramsay, they got a tip about a suspicious person at the hotel which led them to that location. That's where they found the three children safely. They're now in custody of the state Department of Children and Families.

The case stems from a fire earlier in the day that was called out at around 12:30 p.m. When firefighters got on scene, the found a woman deceased in the basement. They don't know whether Dane Wright is a suspect in her death but it is being ruled a suspicious death. The victim has not been identified, but she is associated with the three children that went missing.

"It's going to take some time to determine that," said Wichita Police Chief Gordon Ramsey. "(It's also going to take some time) to determine the cause of death."

Ramsey said the children and the suspect are being interviewed for information. We'll bring you the latest details as they become available.

Wichita Police are looking for three children who they believe are associated to a woman who was discovered deceased at a home in Wichita.

They're looking for 12 year old William J Thompson III, 5-year-old Ethan Thompson, and 2-year-Damien Wright. They believe they went missing after a house fire broke out on the 300 block of Ash Street. One woman was found dead inside and they believe the children are associated with her.

Police believe they may be with 29-year-old Dane Wright. He may be driving a 2001 White Ford Focus with the license plate number of 718 JHX.
