HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KWCH) A Hutchinson school is at risk of shutting down because district officials say they're seeing low enrollment.
The Hutchinson USD 308 Board of Education is considering what to do with the Avenue A elementary in light of current and future enrollment numbers.
The school board could close Avenue A as a regular elementary school at the end of this school year.
Earlier this week we told you the district will purchase the former Dillons supermarket at 517 E. 30th Ave and turn it into a pre-k center.
"It's going to take 60 to 90 days. We have to finish getting this other facility purchased before we say we are going to do something else," says Gary Price.
The district plans to meet with parents and students to discuss where they should send their kids if it decides to close the school.
That decision could come in the next few weeks.
