California HOA: Leave your garage door up or get fined

AUBURN, Cali. (CNN and KWCH) A California community is upset after their homeowners association told them they needed to keep their garage doors open during the day.

The homeowners association of Auburn Greens mandates residents leave their garage doors up from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The rule, which went into effect on Jan. 1, was put into place after a resident let someone live in their garage.

Residents say they understand the concern, but the HOA solution an unreasonable one.

"All I am asking is a reasonable way of going around this," said resident Shally Ia. "If you want to do a monthly, bi-monthly inspection of my garage, I have nothing to hide. If I have something stored in there and you don't like it, I'll remove it."

Currently, residents could face a $200 fine and an administrative hearing for keeping the door down.

The HOA monthly meeting is scheduled to take place in two weeks, and many residents say they plan to be there.
