Camper destroyed in Hutchinson fire

HUTCHINSON, Kan. No one was seriously injured, but a fire destroyed a camper Wednesday morning in Hutchinson.

Hutchinson Fire Department Batallion Chief Jeremy Unruh says about one-third of the camper was on fire when crews arrived on the scene in the 1600 block of East 4th Street a little before 11 a.m. Wednesday. Unruh says a woman in the camper was able to get out safely.

Unruh says the woman suffered "a little bit of smoke inhalation," but was not taken to a hospital.

"Campers are made with very lightweight material and burn quickly," Unruh says.

He says the fire "spread rapidly" and involved a neighboring shed.

Unruh says a fire pit in front of the camper was a possible source of where the blaze began.
