Crews respond to chlorine leak at Wichita water plant

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Emergency crews responded to a small chlorine leak at the Wichita Water Treatment Facility Tuesday afternoon.

Alan King, Wichita's Director of Public Works, Per Alan King, said workers were transferring chlorine from one tank to another tank when the chlorine alarms went off.

The fire department was contacted and sent out its hazmat team.

It was determined that the amount and concentration of chlorine was so small that the neither plant nor the buildings or properties around it needed to be evacuated.

King said the fire department's hazmat team will remain on site.

He said the water department is able to continue chlorinating the water supply safely and provide safe drinking water.

No injuries are associated with the leak.
