NEWTON, Kan. (KWCH) Fire destroyed five outbuildings on a property in Harvey County Friday afternoon.
Crews say the fire threatened a home on the property at 7800 SE 36th, but they used foam to save it.
"We mixed the foam very thick and were able to put a barrier between the structure and the fire. The residence was actually next a three-story barn that was fully involved, and so, we were able to save the residence with the foam," said Scott Metzler, chief of Newton Fire & EMS.
This was just one of two grass fires crews worked on Friday.
The other one was located at 9000 S. Ridge Road, just north of the town of Sedgwick. Crews were able to quickly get it under control.
