Closures and events for Martin Luther King Day

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Several local organizations will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day by holding events as a way to honor his life and legacy.
Events

The Greater Wichita Ministerial League’s 2018 Martin Luther King, Jr. Worship Celebration will be Monday at Wichita State University’s Eugene M. Hughes Metropolitan Complex (5015 E. 29th St. N.).

Join the 10th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Walk on Wednesday starting at 5:30 p.m. at the at the Red Bud Trail, located on the corner of 17th Street and Oliver Avenue. The walk will conclude at the Experiential Engineering Building, where the program will begin at 6 p.m.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. - Eta Beta Lambda Chapter would like to invite everyone to attend the 4th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Program. Carl Brewer, former mayor for the City of Wichita and current candidate for governor in the State of Kansas will be the Keynote speaker. This program will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 12 at Calvary Baptist Church 2653 N. Hillside.

City Wide MLK Celebration will be held at St. John’s Baptist Church, 215 S. Chicago on Monday at 3:30 p.m. The Keynote speaker is Rev. Clifford Bunville, Associate Minister, St. John’s Baptist Church.

Wichita-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Heroes and Sheroes Breakfast will be Monday at 7:30 a.m.-12. The breakfast will take place at St. James Episcopal Church located at 3750 E. Douglas at 7:30 a.m. Tickets are $30, Tables start at $400.

Derby Martial Arts Academy will be giving $75 off 6 weeks of classes. Classes will be $17.25 and you get a free uniform. Use “MLKDAY” at checkout.

Brooks Landfill, Riverside Tennis Center and City of Wichita Golf Courses are open regular hours on Monday.
