Friday rain won't delay weekend construction on I-235

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) I-235 between Zoo Boulevard and K-96 will be closed Saturday and Sunday.

According to KDOT, Friday's rain will not affect the weekend construction.

"I think it's somewhat ridiculous due to the fact that it should have been done somewhat a long time ago as far as I'm concerned," said Wichitan Dalton Holt.

Holt said he lives on the west side and chooses to avoid I-235 altogether because of construction.

"It is somewhat confusing because a lot of times you don't even see where they're telling you to merge," said Holt.

KDOT said there will be signage pointing to alternate routes. I-235 will be closed from Zoo Blvd. to K-96, but you can bypass the road work by using 21st Street and Ridge.

"We share the road with them," said Wichitan, Patrick Greene. "We pay our taxes to them. They make sure our roads work. I don't see the big problem."

Some people don't mind the closure, noting any kind of road improvements to the city are great.

"It makes me happy they're doing repairs and changes because if they're working on something that means that's something less that has to be worked on later, and it will cost less later," said Greene.

According to KDOT, the roads should be open by Monday morning.
