Construction areas to avoid for Thanksgiving travel

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) If you plan to take a day trip today for Thanksgiving there are a few things to know.

There are several projects through the flint hills that take traffic down to one lane.

The big one to watch for is about 10 miles north of Emporia. If you're headed that way you're likely to run into construction near the south Topeka toll plaza, so watch for signage.

There is also work at the Eastern terminal near Bonner Springs. Remember, law enforcement will be out to make sure you obey the laws.

"Seat belts, DUI's, speed enforcement are all things we look for around the holidays. Just make sure to give yourself a little extra time... slow down, leave more space between cars and know what's going on around you."

KDOT announced earlier this week that troopers and other Kansas law enforcement plan to step up seat belt patrols so click it or ticket.
