WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) INTRUST Bank Arena in an effort to enhance the guest experience will provide free public Wi-Fi to all fans.
Free Wi-Fi will begin with this Friday’s Wichita Thunder home opener.
The first-ever free, public Wi-Fi network in the arena is powered by Cox Hospitality Network, a division of Cox Communications.
The total cost of the project is $1.1 million.
Fans can access this new INTRUST Bank Arena amenity by connecting to the INTRUST Bank Arena Public WiFi network.
After connecting, users will be prompted to accept the network’s terms and conditions before enjoying all the benefits of free, high-speed wireless access.
“We’re excited to be able to offer the use of free, public Wi-Fi to all of our guests at INTRUST Bank Arena in an effort to enhance their event experience,” commented AJ Boleski, SMG General Manager.”
A total of 200 wireless access points have been installed and have been setup to accommodate fans in all locations of the building, including fans who are in line directly outside of the arena.
Boleski says the upgrade is needed as connectivity is key for people at the arena.
"We realize it's part of the guest experience," he says. "People expect to be able to jump on the internet pretty much everywhere they go now," he says.
Arena officials say the problem associated with trying to share photos and videos in big crowds and weak signals should be taken care of with the new public WiFi system.
"It is a long time coming," Boleski says. "We've been working on it for a few years now."
Boleski says there are 200 access points throughout the arena, inside and outside. He says the system won't be able to support 15,000 people using the internet at once, but it should be enough for most major events.
"We will definitely be evaluating as we go and make sure that it's a very good product and that speeds are where we want them to be and that people are able to jump on the internet and not have any issues," he says.
All you have to do to connect to the arena's WiFi is to accept terms and conditions.
