KS Proud: Girls with Heartspring take part in 'Girls on the Run'

Heartspring continues to make us Kansas Proud for its work with people who have special needs.

To mark it's 'International Day of the Girl' they are taking their efforts even further.

This fall some of the girls they work with will get to participate in girls on the run.

The national initiative is a program aimed at inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a curriculum that integrates running.

Heartspring put together a team to run in the 5K in December.

"We still felt some of the girls here at Heartsspring could benefit from our program so when they approached us and said how do we get this going, we were more than excited, more than willing to get something going for these ladies," says Christy Thomas.

Ten Heartspring students signed up for the program. They have a goal of getting every student involved in some way.
