It's the day many students in Wichita have been waiting for...the last day of school!
USD 259 wraps up the 2017/2018 school year with a half-day today.
Many schools are celebrating with fun activities, reflection and anticipation for the future.
Eighth graders will take part in the annual "promotion" event, where students officially become high schoolers.
Students dress up, family attends, the orchestra plays and students hear messages about the transition from middle to high school.
Allison Middle School Principal Mitchell Linn says he'll share the importance of getting involved in high school and preparing for their future.
He says one of the most important things for students to keep in mind is who they surround themselves with.
"I've given this message the last couple of years and my kids have heard it a couple times," said Principal Linn. "But I talk about choosing your friends wisely and I tell them 'show me your friends and I'll show you your future' and I really like that saying because I think there's something to that so we tell them make good choices in high school, choose your friends wisely. It does make a difference."
Students will return to school in Wichita on August 15.
