Liberal teacher placed on administrative leave after sexual misconduct allegations

LIBERAL, Kan. (KWCH) A Liberal teacher and cross country coach is accused of inappropriately touching three students.

The school board placed Tyson McGuire on administrative leave Monday. Administrators submitted documents to the board that say McGuire was reprimanded three times over the past three school years.

The first was during the 2015-16 school year. A student said McGuire rubbed her thighs and went under her spandex while applying pain relief gel.

This year, a different student reported inappropriate conduct and that prompted school leaders to ban McGuire from being alone with students.

This year, a third student told administrators Mcquire touched her inappropriately. The district placed him on administrative leave him after this incident.

The district released the following statement:

Liberal High School administration was informed of allegations of inappropriate misconduct involving a teacher and students. Liberal Public Schools does not comment on personnel or student matters.

We understand the severity of these allegations and are conducting a thorough investigating to ensure that the situation is handled appropriately. We ask students and parents to understand the seriousness and sensitivity of any matter involving staff and students and ask that you please respect their privacy.

USD 480 is committed to the responsibility we have to the students and community of Liberal.

Our first priority is always the safety and well-being of our students.
