WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) The Shockers lost to the Sooners today but those closest to the action saw a positive in the match-up.
Businesses were booming during the Wichita State game, some people say this is just a preview of what's to come in March.
Thousands of people packed into Intrust Bank Arena Saturday as the Shockers took on the Sooners. For some, the day started way before the 3 p.m. tipoff.
"This morning we got here. All my staff got here at 9 o'clock and had people almost ready to go. We opened up at 11 o'clock. We had people here at 10:30 ready to come in. And we we're just like dumbfounded. We were filled up by noon," says Oldtown bar manager Tyler Davis,
Davis sees today's crowd as what's coming in March for the NCAA Division 1 men's basketball tournament in March.
"I think with today, it showcases that we're going to get super busy for March Madness, which is going to be fun. I think it's going to be good our local community and everything involved with it."
Bite Me BBQ typically has a packed house on Saturday's but the owner says basketball at Intrust just adds to the crowd
"We had K-State here last week, which is the same way March Madness is going to be- unbelievable. It's going to be three to four days of total chaos downtown but constructive, very good," says Coleman Lockett, owner of Bite Me BBQ.
Lockett thinks the attention can only help Wichita progress.
"It'll definitely help. Not only during the time of March Madness, but for the future when people are coming back to Wichita to have a good time in Old Town and downtown Wichita. They'll be back."
So While the Shox lost today, Davis and Lockett don't see it as a loss for the local economy.
The first and second rounds of the NCAA Divison 1 Men's tournament are again here March 15-17 at Intrust Bank Arena.
