WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) For the past 25 years, Bread of Life Ministries has helped feed about 1,500 families.
This year is no different. But the ministry says it's lacking things to complete a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
Director Donna Pinnaire says the Kansas Food Bank donated about 700 turkeys and the ministry bought more. What is needed now are the sides.
"We have a need for cranberries, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, green beans. The corn is taken care of, the mushroom soup for the most part is. Canned milk, things like that, we're in need of those things still," said Pinnaire.
She says six or seven churches and organizations have held drives for single items, but getting donations has been especially tough this year.
Still, Pinnaire says she enjoys how the annual Thanksgiving dinner brings together Wichita.
"It's to see the community pull together, and people are touched by this and they want to help. So we're just thrilled to be able to steward that and to be able to help all these people," said Pinnaire.
Bread of Life gives out food every Tuesday. No giveaway will be held this Tuesday, Nov. 14, because of the annual Thanksgiving giveaway which will take place on Saturday at Bread of Life Ministries, 1301 E. Galena.
