Magnitude 3.4 earthquake hits near south Hutchinson

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) The Kansas Geological Survey reports a magnitude 3.4 earthquake near south Hutchinson.

It happened a little before 5 a.m. Thursday morning.

Eyewitness News heard several reports across Reno County about the earthquake being strong enough to shake their house. Multiple people reported waking up to their beds shaking.

Sheila commented on Facebook, “Short roll on this one. Felt more like a bomb.”

Trenton from Hutchinson said, “First thought was either earthquake or someone ran into the house. Luckily there was no vehicle parked in my living room.”

Jeremiah said it felt like his house was in a tornado.

Mike tweeted that it felt like his bed was kicked and the blinds in the window slammed against the glass. He said it was more or a jolt than shaking.

Reno County dispatchers tell us they are not aware of any damage.
