Amber Alert suspect charged with arson, murder

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) A man accused in the death of a Wichita woman, a house fire and kidnapping of three children, made his first appearance Wednesday in Sedgwick County District Court.

Dane Wright, 29, was formally charged with first-degree murder, arson, and three counts of child endangerment.

The charges stem from a house fire, woman's death and Amber Alert involving three children. On Friday (June 2), police say firefighters found a woman's body in their response to a house fire in the 300 block of North Ash in Wichita.

Police say the woman, identified as Reyona Caldwell, of Wichita, had been bludgeoned and the house fire had been intentionally set. The suspect -- later identified as Wright -- had fled the scene. Police believe Wright left with three children, ages 11, five and two. This signaled the Amber Alert.

Tips led police to a motel on South Broadway where the children were found safe. Wright was located and arrested Friday night.

In court Wednesday, Wright's bail was set at $500,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 21.
