Monday, June 11:

The McPherson Police Department and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation are investigating a man's death as a homicide in the Mustang Mobile Home Park in the 400 block of Dales Draw in McPherson.

Police say officers responded to the report of gunshots being fired in the area about 12:30 a.m. Monday.

On the scene, officers found a man in his mid 20's dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Police say the officers found the man in an empty grass lot.

Chelsi Schafer says she witnesses the crime scene when she went to pick up her children from her uncle's home in the park.

"When I came in, they already had a tent around the body, and they had metal detectors looking for shells and whatnot and my uncle was actually awake and heard the shots lasts night," Schafer says.

The McPherson Police Department contacted the KBI to assist in processing the scene.

Some neighbors say in addition to the man, bullets hit another home. Police found the man's body in a lot behind a home.

"Last night I heard gunshots, a 'bap, bap, bap' and then nothing," says Ron Bryant who lives in the home near where police found the man's body.

Police have not made an arrest in the shooting, McPherson's first and only homicide of the year.
