Man climbs ski lift to rescue hanging unconscious friend

DENVER, Colo. Terrifying new video from Colorado shows a man dangling from a chest strap on his backpack after it got stuck on the chair lift he was riding.

Skiers watched in horror as the strap began choking the man, eventually making him black out.

"It was the scariest thing I've ever seen. It's the most helpless I've ever felt. Being two feet away from one of my best friends, my best man, while I watched him lose consciousness," said Hans Mueller, a friend of the victim who was nearby when the incident happened.

But it was another friend, Mickey Wilson, a professional slackliner, who jumped to action.

"I looked at the tower, I looked at the cable going down from the tower to him and I said 'I can climb up that tower and I can scoot down it and get to him and make this rescue go faster'," said Wilson.

Photos show Wilson climbing up a pole, across lines, and onto the chair.

When he couldn't kick his friend free, a ski patrol official tossed him a knife for him to cut his friend free.

The man was taken to the hospital and will make a full recovery.
