Marine veteran hikes to bring awareness to suicide

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (KWCH) A Marine veteran hiked 222 miles to bring awareness to the alarming number of veterans that commit suicide every day.

Shane Stephens started his hike in Camp Lejeune, N.C on November 30 and ended his journey at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront in front of the Neptune Statue, just before 4 p.m on Saturday, December 9.

Stephens hiked 22 miles in just 10 days. The last day of his hike was dedicated to 17-year-old Christopher Lim, a Salem High school student who shot himself in a school bathroom while at school on November 30.
