McConnell AFB airman recognized for pulling man from burning car

WICHITA, Kan. A McConnell Air Force Base airman is recognized for a heroic act.

One the morning of March 31, Senior Airman Alex Williams, with the 22nd Maintenance Group Operations Center, was driving on Kellogg when he saw a burning car.

Williams stopped and pulled a man out of the fire to safety.

"The moment that I slammed on the brakes, I think it all came to just action. I don't even remember deciding to do this. It just happened," Williams says.

The paramedics soon arrived. Williams learned the man he pulled to safety had gone into a diabetic shock, which caused him to lose control of the car and crash into a highway wall.

McConnell says Williams's supervision has put him up for the Air Force's Commendation Medal in recognition of the life-saving effort.
