WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran is continuing the fight against oak mites.
The bug, with a painful and itchy bite, has become a problem recently across Kansas.
Last month, Moran was able to add a one-sentence provision to the most recent budget bill, which directs the National Institute of Food and Agriculture to study the infestation.
"There is no research that determines how to control them, mitigate them, get ride of them," Moran said in Wichita Friday. "We have insisted that agricultural research folks give us scientific information about what kind response we can have to make sure we rid Kansans of this pesty oak mite."
While there are no good options to get rid of oak mites, it's best to avoid going under oak trees and wearing long sleeve shirts and pants when possible.
