WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) The Wichita Fire Department continues to investigate what caused the fire at Shirkmere Apartments downtown.
The multiple alarm fire was reported about 3:40 p.m.on Wednesday at 256 N Topeka.
Officials say people on the seventh, eighth and ninth floors were evacuated.
Investigators told Eyewitness News the damage is estimated at $110,000, mostly to the structure.
The apartment building took heavy water damage to the bottom floor apartments.
The Wichita Fire Department Wednesday afternoon fought to contain a fire to the Shirkmere Apartments downtown.
The fire department says multiple alarms were called out on the high rise fire located at 256 N Topeka. Fire officials say the fire was on to the ninth floor of the complex. This is a floor used for storage. Officials say people on the seventh, eighth and ninth floors were evacuated, but no units were damaged.
No residents were injured in the fire, but one firefighter was treated for a leg injury after slipping on stairs. The fire was reported about 3:40 p.m. Officials say crews had the fire contained in about 30 minutes.
