WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Wind chills in Wichita are expected to drop 10 to 25 degrees below zero tonight but some bar owners say that's not stopping the fun for Wichitans going out to ring in the New Year.
It's opening night for Keys Dueling Piano Bar and the owner couldn't think of a better time for a grand opening.
"Well, we thought for a piano bar, that would be the perfect time to open and I think it is," says Tracy Reagain.
This New Years could be the coldest in Wichita in nearly 40 years but Tracy Reagain says that's not stopping the celebrations.
"Yes, we've had the heat on now for a week solid while we finished up odds and ends. And I like to say it's freezing outside, but our keys are smoking hot."
In Downtown Wichita, The Hudson will offer ways to keep party-goers warm as well.
"DJ E and DJ Panda are going to be mixing up the beats and we're all going to be moving around on the dance floor. So we have coat checks- everyone can check their coats at the door. And then they'll be comfortable inside in the warmth and not have to go outside the rest of the night," says Jessie Griffith.
Griffith also says one of the advantages of staying indoors this New Years is celebrating comfortably instead of out in the cold.
"We've cranked up the heat. It's really warm in here. Secondly, we have exclusive event services, best bartending service in town. And they are serving up a little alcohol to keep us warm that way."
Overall, Reagain thinks the cold weather won't slow down her grand opening.
