Pop-Up events planned for March Madness in Wichita

March Madness is coming to Wichita. INTRUST Bank Arena will play host to the first two rounds of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.

Thousands of people are expected in Wichita for the tournament, and there will be no shortage of entertainment for them.

The Wichita City Council is expected to approve several events near the arena.

Those events include a patio drinking area at Emerson Biggins on North Rock Island Road.

If approved, Emerson Biggins will be allowed to host their events until 2 a.m. March 15th through the 18th.

They'll hire additional security and more than 20 extra staff members to handle the crowds.

"The 'Trusty Rustys' down here, we've been here for a long time," said Emerson Biggins co-owner Erica Davis, "A lot of us, the moment that this was announced four years ago, we've been on our edge, we've been planning, we've been preparing for four years."

Another event will be right across from the arena. It's in the old Lexus lot and it's called The Bracket Bash.

That party is hosted by Wichita Festivals, the same group that puts on River Fest.

It will offer food, drinks and games.

Wichita Festivals says this won't go into the early morning hours like some of the other events.

"Our event is going to be pretty straightforward because we're on one private property lot rather than out into the streets or crossing thoroughfares," said Wichita Festivals President and CEO, Mary Beth Jarvis. "Ours is pretty simple so we'll operate as early as 9 in the morning and we'll shut down mostly at 11'o'clock at night."

The Wichita Brewing Company also applied to host an event with two huge tents on the corner of Waterman and Emporia.

Morts Martini and Cigar Bar is also hosting a watch party.
