Reno County Sheriff's Office issues warning on warrant scam

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KWCH) The Reno County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about the latest scam.

The sheriff's office says it has gotten a lot of calls from citizens who report receiving calls from Captain Lutz. The caller states the person on the other end has warrants and tells them they must pay immediately or go to jail.

"Although we do have a Captain Lutz the rest of the information is false," said the sheriff's office on its Facebook page. "Our agency will NEVER call you to inform you of a warrant. We mail a first class letter informing you of such. We also can not take money and make a warrant go away."

Some citizens reported the caller having personal information including social security numbers.

The sheriff's office says you should not release any personal information over the phone and do not send money.
